I often brainstorm with clients to develop a checklist of healthy habits (“Top-Line” behaviors) that they can post in their homes – somewhere in plain view.

Initially, this checklist technique was something I suggested primarily to depressed clients. Over time, I realized that most of my clients were also neglecting to prioritize their own self-care.

By not prioritizing their own wellbeing, they’re complicating stress, anxiety, and other problems. Most clients try, but they usually forget and fall back into old unhealthy patterns after a couple of weeks or so.

How Consistent Are Your Self-Care Habits?

Keeping a physical checklist helps you stay on track until your healthier lifestyle becomes an ingrained routine.

Check each item on the list at least once a week. The idea is to keep you mindful of how you’re doing and creating ingrained healthy habits.

Some foundational items include:
☑ Eating healthy meals regularly
☑ Keeping a consistent, healthy sleep schedule
☑ Time with supportive friends and/or family
☑ Doing something for fun yourself (hobby, hot bath, read a silly novel)
☑ Maintaining boundaries around work hours
☑ Exercise
☑ Spending time outdoors

Every list should be customized to each person, but most include the above items.

It’s a simple, low-tech way to keep on track and to prioritize your self-care.

The very best to you all.
